Associates

The project associates serve an important role in the project. They complement the resources and expertise of local partners by providing additional resources, logistical capacity, country and substantive expertise and specialized networks.

The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women's empowerment and gender equality. Placing the advancement of women's human rights at the centre of all of its efforts, UNIFEM focuses its activities on four strategic areas: (1) reducing feminized poverty, (2) ending violence against women, (3) reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS among women and girls, and (4) achieving gender equality in democratic governance in times of peace as well as war.
UNIFEM will remain available to collaborate with the Club of Madrid whenever possible. UNIFEM will introduce Club of Madrid’s partners to their local partners. If AWLP activities fit with UNIFEM’s (in theme, budget and timing), UNIFEM will be able to facilitate workshops and capacity building activities for women leaders.

The Network of Women Ministers and Parliamentarians (NEWMAP) advocates for all protocols already signed by governments to be domesticated (CEDAW and others). It also sensitises constituencies about reproductive health and rights, HIV/AIDS, education of the girl child, and women in politics. NEWMAP is a member of the Network of African Women Ministers and Parliamentarians. Sierra Leone is the bureau representing the Western Region and one of the programs is to encourage the Nigerian parliamentarians to form their own network.
NEWMAP will help CoM and CGG in contacting women ministers and parliamentarians, and will provide strategic advice for the proposed actions. The National Coordinator will act as facilitator in one/some of the capacity-building workshops.

The Council of Women World Leaders (CWWL) is a network of current and former women presidents and prime ministers. The Council currently has 36 Members, which represents nearly all of the world’s current and former women world leaders. The Council's mission is to mobilize the highest-level women leaders globally for collective action on issues of critical importance to women and equitable development. A ministerial initiative that engages sitting and former women ministers and cabinet members is an integral and essential part of the Council structure. The Council and Ministerial Initiative create a global architecture for giving a collective voice to women at the highest levels of government. Their mission is to promote good governance and enhance the experience of democracy globally by increasing the number, effectiveness, and visibility of women world leaders.
Select CWWL members (or network members) will participate in mission activities such as the leadership capacity building workshops, sharing of experience events, and strategy planning sessions.  Having reached the height of politics, these women possess a wealth of knowledge regarding best practices and advocacy strategies for promoting increased women’s political participation.  Their strategic guidance to female and reform-minded male parliamentarians facing similar challenges will be invaluable. Additionally, CWWL members may also facilitate securing high-level government meetings in the target countries, help identify other appropriate international experts, and their support of the project will lend credibility in general, to women’s presence in the political sphere.
